³⁴ “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”^(A)

⁷⁴ Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!”

Immediately a rooster crowed.

⁷⁵ Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”^(A) And he went outside and wept bitterly.

³⁵ “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn.

³⁰ “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice^[a] you yourself will disown me three times.”^(A)

⁶⁸ But he denied it. “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,”^(A) he said, and went out into the entryway.^[a]

⁷² Immediately the rooster crowed the second time.^[a] Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice^[b] you will disown me three times.”^(A) And he broke down and wept.
